Week 10
Review
I have already used World Book for kids with both my own
classes and promoted it to teachers. (During the trials I also promoted MyOn Reader,
which I had great feedback on.) I
also discussed using Camio with the art teacher and I also plan to use it next
year for several social studies lessons. The best thing I can do to promote our
resources is to stay current on them myself. As another teacher and I discussed
a few weeks ago, presenting to a large group does not typically herald great
results, however, if you have a solution or suggestion ready in the lunchroom
or workroom not only are teachers more likely to use it in the future, but also
more likely to come and ask questions the next time they are creating a new
lesson. The World books are the sources I use the most in the library, but I
hope to use SIRS and Proquest more often in the future as well.
For myself, World Cat was probably my biggest discovery. I
had not really looked at it since it showed up in the ‘DOS’ type of format. I
like the Windows format and found it surprisingly easy to use. I am hoping we
can find a solution to that we can use these records with our local Destiny
software. Besides being faster than typing our original records, I think the
records would be more accurate and more complete as well.
